EID is a 24-month multi-country project aimed at enhancing civic engagement and promoting inclusive policies across the European Union. The initiative is composed of nine work packages (WPs) designed to cover various facets of capacity building, community involvement, policy influence, and public dissemination.

WP1 kicks off the project by defining roles and responsibilities, while WP2 conducts a needs assessment to identify gaps in existing democratic processes. WP3 focuses on creating resources and educational materials that aim to foster more informed and active citizens. WP4 takes the information and materials from WP3 and uses them in training and capacity-building exercises, aimed at both civic leaders and the general public. The project hosts 5 major events in Greece, Latvia, Romania, and Portugal, focused on themes such as Inclusive Democracy, Civic Engagement, Media Literacy, Gender Equality, and Community Building. These events aim to attract a total of 1,300 participants, thereby enhancing the outreach and impact of the project. Additionally, 3 debates on the Future of Europe are interwoven throughout the project, engaging 90 participants in discussions about Europe's direction and how to make it more inclusive. WP5 and WP6 focus on developing a digital platform for community dialogues and on monitoring, evaluating, and iterating the project's effectiveness, respectively. WP7 then takes all of this information to engage in policy outreach and advocacy, aimed at both national and European levels of government. WP8 disseminates the outcomes and learnings of the project to a wider audience through various media channels. WP9 wraps up the project with a comprehensive assessment and sustainability plan, ensuring that the project's impacts continue beyond its initial funding period.

Empowering Inclusive Democracy aims to leave a lasting impact by strengthening the capacity of citizens and policymakers making the democratic processes in the EU more inclusive.

Debate with Lefteris Papagiannakis

For the second activity of our program “I vote for myself! Redefining a common path to 2024 EU elections”, Inter Alia will host a debate together with Lefteris Papagiannakis, Director of the Greek Council for Refugees and former Assistant to a Member of the European Parliament in Brussels.

Inter Alia invited participants of the European Youth Goals training in Athnes to engage in a stimulating debate about how EU elections work and why they are relevant, what and who people actually vote for, what happens after the Members of the European Parliament are elected and start their daily work, and learn some “behind the scenes” information.

In a time when we feel disconnected from representative democracy, we will try to explore together the reasons why we should be interested in voting for EU elections and understand how, as citizens, we can learn to use existing instruments to change policies and put pressure on decision-makers inside EU institutions.

Inter Alia organisation members are involved is to promote young people active participation in the European, national and local elections. Check their Youtube playlist OUR EYE ON THE EU:

If you are curious to exchange points of view and discuss the EU and the European Parliament in a non-conventional way and through a critical approach, this debate is what you need!
